PAMBuoy® revolutionises marine mammal research and monitoring by providing a high quality tool that sends acoustic data, in real time back to SMRU Ltd, 24/7.

PAMBuoy® is built on the widely used software PAMGUARD, the leading solution for passive acoustic monitoring for the Oil & Gas industry. The proprietary software of PAMBuoy® has been developed specifically to run on low-power processors, reliably and with minimal maintenance. The system has an input bandwidth capable of detecting all known marine mammal sounds, with software detectors that can be dynamically enabled and configured once deployed.

PAMBuoy® was wholly owned and developed by SMRU Ltd. In 2012 owership was transferred to MIL (Marine Instrumention Ltd), a sister company of SMRU Ltd and a subsiduary of SOI Group.

SMRU Ltd was set up in 2006 as the commercial arm of the Sea Mammal Research Unit at the University of St Andrews and is a world leader in applied research and consultancy on marine mammals, providing high quality services and advice on marine environmental issues.
